The main objective of this exploration was to
locate the archaeological sites, along the Ami River in districts Sidharthnagar,
Basti and Gorakhpur and to assess the settlements of the pre-Buddhist period
(pre-NBPW*; pre 600-700 BC) in the context of earlier works conducted at
Sohgaura, Narhan, Imlidih Khurd, etc. During the course of explorations
carried out in this valley several pre-NBPW sites were identified, however,
none of them turned out to be as early as Sohgaura.
