The office of the Director,
Archaeology, U.P. is generally referred
to as the Directorate of Archaeology,
Government of U.P. It is one of the
3 Directorates under the Department
of Culture, Government of U.P. The other two being Directorate of Culture
and Directorate of Museums. The Department
of Culture in the U.P. Government is
headed by Secretary, Culture. |

The Directorate of
Archaeology controls all the activities
of the U.P. State Archaeology Department.
Major archaeological excavations and
research projects are carried out through
the Directorate. The Regional Offices established at Gorakhpur, Varanasi,
Allahabad, Jhansi and Agra work under
the supervision and control of the Directorate. The organisational
